lyóbor [lʲo.bɔr], the word for the traditional Kharulian academy. This derives from an Old Kharulian word meaning “enclosure, paddock”, since the typical format of early academies was a collection of small buildings enclosed by a wall.

The academy was a place for scholars to work, discuss ideas, and read the books that were collected in the academy’s library. Academies also tutored students, both the wealthy, whose tuitions financed the academies, and the most promising members of the lower classes, who would become the next generation of scholars.
